Duffy shares intimate new music in 2020 after bravely documenting rape ordeal

Duffy has shared a brand new photograph online, as she continues to reconnect with her fans.

The singer returned to social media last year after a hiatus from the spotlight following a horrifying rape ordeal.

Earlier this month, the 37-year-old flooded her Instagram account with her “passing thoughts” and touched on on themes of love, history, acceptance, music and life in a series of text uploads.

On Friday morning, the Grammy award-winning artist decided to turn the camera on herself as shared with her 176,000 followers a stunning black and white snap of snap.

In the picture, the Welsh native can be seen resting her chin on her clenched hand, as she glances down at the floor in the sombre shot.

“I’ll leave my shadow, to fall behind,” Duffy captioned the post – adding a black love heart-emoji to her sentiments.

Fans loved getting a glimpse of the Mercy hitmaker and rushed to the comment section to send some love to the star.

“My heart is full of happiness and joy to see you here,” one fan began their message to the musician.

“I can’t explain but makes me so happy when you interact with us.”

Another well-wisher wrote: “Hope you’re doing well Duffy wherever you are.”

The award-winning singer opened up about a traumatic event in a moving post last year

In February 2020, Duffy appeared on Instagram and revealed that her absence from the spotlight had been due to being “raped and drugged and held hostage over some days” and needing time to recover.

In the since-deleted post, the star did not specify the identity of her attacker or offer specific details to where and when the attack took place.

Prior to her hiatus from the music world, Duffy had been one of the U.K’s most popular singers.

Her debut album, Rockferry, released in 2008, became the best-selling album across the country that year and led to worldwide attention.

The following year, the star received the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album for her debut release, and won three out of four Brit Award nominations.

In a longer statement regarding her rape ordeal, Duffy explained on her website in April 2020 that she had been drugged at a restaurant on her birthday and then held captive in a hotel room in a foreign country.

She recalled: “It was my birthday, I was drugged at a restaurant, I was drugged then for four weeks and travelled to a foreign country.

“I can’t remember getting on the plane and came round in the back of a travelling vehicle. I was put into a hotel room and the perpetrator returned and raped me.

“I remember the pain and trying to stay conscious in the room after it happened. I was stuck with him for another day, he didn’t look at me, I was to walk behind him, I was somewhat conscious and withdrawn. I could have been disposed of by him.”

Following the horrifying ordeal, Duffy added that she had spent “almost 10 years completely alone” and admitted that she finally felt ready to “leave this decade behind” her.

Despite moving on from the intense trauma, she added: “I very much doubt I will ever be the person people once knew.”
