Carl Froch and Audley Harrison in surprising bitter war of words on Twitter as heavyweight responds to bizarre claim he was KOd in sparring and tells Froch, ‘Joe Calzaghe was on a different level’

Audley Harrison has attacked Carl Froch on social media, prompting a response and brief back-and-forth.

The Olympic super-heavyweight gold medallist returned to Twitter over the weekend and has not held back with his unfiltered comments assessing the boxing world.

In particular, Harrison has taken aim at his former GB amateur teammate Froch.

Harrison began: “Now – there is one fighter I’m going to put on blast today.

“@Carl_Froch became really disrespectful when I lost my strength and really got it twisted with me.

“I remember when I was Superman and we were at the Olympic qualifiers and he was basically crying my shoulders as the boxing management wanted him to box on in the finals after he qualified.

“I told him, ‘No, don’t do it, save yourself for the Olympics event.’

“They pressured him and I said, ‘F*** ‘em, don’t do it.’

“He started balling for real and I told him about sports psychology and what book he should read.

“He took that book and became a beast and learned to control his mindset, so do you think he should acknowledge that I helped mould his thinking?

“Instead, he starts disrespecting my name and forgot where he came from.

“When [Andre] Ward tamed him I was glad, and I’m not normally spiteful like that, but Froch took the p***.

“Now Superman is back, I’m letting you know @Carl_Froch that your behaviour was not cool.

“By the way, you would never of beaten @RealJoeCalzaghe, never.

“He was on a different level, so you need to let that s*** go and move on.”

One fan bizarrely commented: “I have it on good authority that @Carl_Froch KO’d you in sparring.”

To which Harrison replied: “Your mom – Froch couldn’t KO me then, now or forever – he wouldn’t dare step to me – he’s smarter than that.”

Froch then weighed in on the spat himself as he responded: “Audley, please just stop embarrassing yourself.

“You know I’ve always had love for you, like the big loveable cowardly lion from The Wizard of Oz.”

To which Harrison hit back: “Oh Carl – I really thought you were going to come on here and make peace.

“Are you seriously going to go there?

“I guarantee right now, at least 20 boxers will back me right now – that you actually cried crocodile tears on big Aud’s shoulders in the qualifiers.

“You needed ME.”
