Ruth Langsford admits Eamonn’s comments made her sad

Broadcaster Eamonn Holmes has revealed the heartbreaking reason why he split from his first wife after 10 years of marriage.

The GB News presenter has been married to This Morning’s Ruth Langsford since 2010, but his first wife was Gabrielle Holmes, who is the mother of his three children.

The Northern Ireland-born star split from Gabrielle in 1996 having first met her in 1976.

In his 2008 book This is My Life: The Autobiography, Eamonn alludes to why the marriage broke down.

The broadcaster said the couple had an “amicable divorce” and discussed how the pair grew apart in the period following the death of his father.

Eamonn’s autobiography mentions the toll his career took on his first marriage

He wrote: “Gabrielle was increasingly indifferent and I didn’t know why.

“I needed her close, I needed her to reach me and ease my pain, but she had concerns of her own, principal of which was an impending birth.”

Eamonn and Gabrielle have three children together, Declan, Rebecca and Niall.

In his book, Eamonn also spoke abut how his career had an impact on his marriage.

He’s been married to Ruth since 2010

He explained that the couple tended to be part during the week because of his job, adding that he had “no trouble with that – though Gabrielle obviously did.”

He admitted: “That was the first time I realised there wasn’t that emotional support there for me, though I probably had suspected it.”

Eamonn married Loose Women presenter Ruth in 2010 and the couple share one son, Jack.

The couple have presented This Morning together for years, however the father-of-four has now moved to rival channel GB News.

After promising to “do lots of things differently” on his debut early-morning show during his first ever live appearance on GB News, the veteran broadcaster tackled a variety of topics with his new co-host, Isabel Webster.

During one debate, Eamonn was discussing his shopping habits, revealing wife Ruth ‘goes mad’ if he orders groceries from Deliveroo or buys food from a garage.

However, Ruth was at home listening in and promptly sent her a husband a text.

Reading his message out to the studio and audience watching, he said: “A text has flooded in, ‘You don’t do the shopping on Deliveroo, you just get treats for you’.”

Turning to Isabel and showing her his phone, he added: “And do you see that’s in capital letters with an exclamation mark.”

“You can’t get away with saying that,” Isabel warned. “She’s watching.”

Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel airs weekdays on GB News from 6am to 9.30am.
