Fans were in shock when Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet announced they were separating after 16 years together.

The 6 ft 5 Game of Thrones star and Cosby Show actress said they were “parting ways in marriage” after “feeding and growing from the seismic shifts occurring”.

The gorgeous pair, who had been married for four years, were widely considered to be one of Hollywood’s strongest couples – but sadly, not anymore.

The duo are said to have met at a jazz club in 2005 before Jason, 42, found fame as hunky Khai Drogo in Game of Thrones.

Lisa, 54, was already famous having played Denise Huxtable on The Cosy Show and its spin-off series A Different World.

They’ve called time on their relationship after four years of marriage

Speaking about the moment he first set eyes on his future wife, Jason told James Cordon on The Late Late Show in 2017: “Ever since I was like, 8 years old and I saw her on the TV, I was like, ‘Mommy, I want that one.

“I’m like, ‘I’m going to stalk you for the rest of my life and I’m going to get you.

“I didn’t tell her that until we had two babies—otherwise, I’d be creepy and weird. I’ve always wanted to meet her. She was a queen, always.”

When the pair met, Jason said that he’d just dreadlocked his hair in what he thinks was more than a coincidence.

Jason knew he wanted to marry Lisa aged eight

“I had huge dreadlocks, she had dreadlocks. I literally turned around, I was with my best friend, and I see her and I’m just like…

“I had f**king fireworks going off inside me, man!

“Right place, right time.”

The star explained that Lisa drove him home as he didn’t have a car, but the couple stopped off at a 101 Coffee Shop in Hollywood, where the actress ordered a Guinness – Jason’s favourite tipple.

“That was it,” he said. “We had Guinness and grits and, you know, the rest is history.”

He said he felt ‘fireworks’ when he first met the actress

Recalling her romance with the Hawaii-born star, Lisa told Porter magazine in 2018 : “In that moment, love came and it came big, and he did not run as I think a lot of men do.

“He basically picked me up and threw me over his shoulder, caveman style!”

The pair went onto have two children, daughter Lola, born in 2007 and their fabulously named son Nakoa-Wolf, who arrived a year later.

Jason was also stepfather to Lisa’s daughter, Zoe, who she shares with ex-husband Lenny Kravitz.

Lisa was regularly referred to as the Aquaman actor’s wife, but the pair didn’t officially marry until 2017.

The couple are said to have exchanged vows at their home in Topanga, California.

Two years after they tied the knot, Jason was still pinching himself, gushing to Esquire in 2019: “If someone says something isn’t possible, I’m like, ‘Listen here, I married Lisa Bonet.”

However while Jason proved that ‘anything is possible’, the couple have now said they’re ‘freeing each other’ as they go their separate ways.

In a lengthy post, the actor wrote to his 16.5 million followers on Instagram : “We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times… A revolution is unfolding ~and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring.

“And so~ We share our Family news that we are parting ways in marriage.

“We share this not because we think it’s newsworthy ~ but so that~ as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty.”

“The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other ~to be who we are learning to become… Our devotion unwavering to this sacred life & our Children.

“Teaching our Children what’s possible ~ Living the Prayer. May Love Prevail.”
