Marcus Rashford doesn’t look happy at Manchester United with demeanour ‘worrying’ but leaving Old Trafford, like Jesse Lingard, might be good for him

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford may need a transfer away from the club to reignite his career.

Former England striker Lianne Sanderson believes the 24-year-old’s demeanour is a worry and suggests he is in need of an arm around him.

Rashford is currently out-of-form after returning from surgery on a shoulder injury.

He has just two goals and one assist in 11 Premier League apperances and is struggling in interim manager Ralf Rangnick’s team.

And Sanderson, a Reds Devils fan, admitted her concerns around his form.

She told talkSPORT: “Right now, Marcus Rashford looks like he needs an arm round him. He isn’t playing well. He doesn’t look himself. And he doesn’t look happy.

“I feel a little worried about him at this moment in time, like, in himself.

“Yes, when you have a dip in form it does affect everything you’re doing. We saw him send out a tweet the other week, I think he said he knows he’s not been good enough.

“When you’re in that situation you feel like you keep drowning and drowning. He looks like he doesn’t want the next game to come. He looks like he’s in a really bad place.

“I’m not making excuses for him but I would be mindful of people getting on his back.

“I sent a tweet out about him not looking himself because I do think people make excuses, especially for English players, a lot of excuses are made. But he doesn’t look himself.

“Maybe, is he the player we all thought he would be? Was it too much too soon? Has he ever been as good as everyone thinks he is?”

Last season, a half-season loan to West Ham saw Jesse Lingard go from outcast to Euro 2020 contender with nine goals and four assists.

And Sanderson reckons a similar deal could be a catalyst for Rashford.

“I think a move away, at some point, might be good for him as well,” she added.

Sanderson was queried over the idea and replied: “What’s going to do? Stay there and just do exactly what he’s doing now? If he continues like this for the next two or three seasons are we just going to say he’s going to stay there?

“Maybe he’s been through so much at the club, similar to Jesse Lingard, that a fresh start [will be good].

“Look at when Jesse Lingard went to West Ham.”
