Singer Nicki Minaj has been dropped from a lawsuit originally filed against her and her husband Kenneth Petty for harassment.

The 39-year-old rapper was accused along with Petty in a lawsuit filed last year by Jennifer Hough of “witness intimidation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, harassment” after she had accused Petty of sexual assault in 1994.

Hough is also suing Petty for sexual assault and battery in relation to his conviction in 1995.

Hough had originally alleged that in 1994, Petty raped her at knifepoint. They were both 16 years old at the time and Petty was charged with first-degree attempted rape the following year.

Petty pleaded guilty to attempted rape and was imprisoned for 18 to 54 months, eventually serving four years in jail.

Petty is required to register as a sex offender, as he was convicted for the first-degree attempted rape, and is considered to be a level two registered offender in New York, which means he is thought to be a “moderate risk of repeat offence”.

In March 2020 he was arrested after failing to register as a sex offender in California after moving from New York in 2019.

The charges were later dropped but then federal charges were brought leading to Petty accepting a plea deal.

TMZ has reported that Minaj has been voluntarily dismissed from the lawsuit, though Petty remains a defendant.

No reason has been given for why the rapper has been dismissed.

In 2020, Hough had alleged that Minaj had called her after Petty’s arrest and offered to fly her and her family to Los Angeles, or for Minaj to send her publicist to Hough.

Hough said that she declined this offer but then her family started starting receiving communications from intermediaries for the couple and “suffered an onslaught of harassing calls and unsolicited visits”

Speaking to Vulture, Minaj’s attorney Judd Burstein said: “What they tried to do to Nicki was disgraceful.

“They finally realised that they had to surrender without Nicki paying a penny. And now, Nicki and I are going to make them pay for this in the courts.”

The attorney added: “We have the right, under the law, to seek what are known as sanctions, which would require them to pay Nicki’s legal fees – which are substantial.”
