The 55-year-old music legend was left devastated this month when 17-year-old son Shane Lunny – who Sinead shared with her musician ex-partner Donal Lunny, 74 – was found dead following a police search after he went missing from care.

The heartbroken star confirmed that Shane had taken his own life and has gone on to pay tribute to her son and has shared details of his funeral plans online.

The star tweeted: “Fyi. Shane was Hindu. So the funeral will be just his mother and father. This was also the wish Shane expressed in his suicide notes.”

She also advised fans where they could send flowers or other items in tribute to her son if they so wished.

She tweeted: “If you’re going to send anything to the mortuary at Loughlinstown hospital pls send flowers or Hindu objects. Shane O’Connor.”

She later added: “Alternatively flowers or Hindu objects can be sent to Newlands Cross crematorium. I believe the ceremony is to be on Thursday.”

In heart wrenching tweets, Sinead – who changed her name to Shuhada Davitt in 2018 and converted to Islam that same year – broke the news of her son’s death.

She tweeted on Saturday: “My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God.

“May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace.”

The star had previously hit out at the medical facilities that Shane had been seeking treatment from ahead of his suicide – blaming CAMHS [Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services] for “discharging” him before a suicide note was found.

She also hit out at the Child and Family Agency Tusla who she accused of only contacting her “from their media office, concerned for themselves over the negative publicity.”

However, she later issued an apology to the agency.

Sinead tweeted: “Ok, I’m gonna do the right thing here and apologise for my lashing out. Tusla are working with very limited resources. They loved shane. They are broken hearted. They are human. I am sorry I have upset them. We are a third world country. It’s not their fault.”

She added: The issue is.. we are a third world country. We have 12 beds in special care for suicidal teenagers. And no resources to save those who can’t manage life. 128 icu beds in the whole Country. Tusla did their best. We all did: and I am deeply sorry to have blamed anyone.”
